 What is it?

School staff are given the opportunity to spend an agreed period of time with a specific company.

Aimed at:

This initiative comes under the Scottish Executive's Enterprise in Education Agenda and has the full endorsement of HM Inspectorate of Education, the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland and the Scottish Confederation of British Industries. This programme aims to offer staff in pre-school, primary, secondary and special education the opportunity to engage in enterprise and industry awareness training. Although not eligible for cover costs, Careers Advisers, teaching staff working within the Prison Service and the National Health Service may also apply. The programme also facilitates reciprocal placements for business people into schools so that all schools, or groups of schools, can have access to business based contacts committed to Enterprise in Education.

What does it involve?

Offers teachers and schools an opportunity to develop a significant understanding of a current area of the labour market, or business sector activity, through planned placements of a minimum duration of two days with no upper limit. In addition, teachers may attend relevant conferences, training events and seminars that relate to enhancing their knowledge and awareness of the labour market and the world of work as part of a longer-term placement. The participant is expected to enter into a commitment to actively promote the Enterprise in Education Agenda in their own schools. The schools will be expected to commit to making effective use of the expertise gained during the placement.

Curricular Links:

Participating staffs have the opportunity of enhancing and developing their own subject area.
