Copyright protection is afforded by the Act to all graphic works
such as paintings, sculptures, photographs, slides etc. and each
category is protected in its own right e.g. a photograph of a
painting represents two distinct categories to which copyright
protection is offered. Permission is also required
to incorporate copyright-protected slides, music or video
footage into film or video productions made by schools.
All three-dimensional
works regardless of “artistic quality” are protected by the 1988
Copyright, Designs and Patents Act against copying in any medium
(i.e. model, photograph, drawing etc.).
Highland Council staff seeking general copyright information
should check
“Copyright-Staff Guidance” under
the “Staff Information”
heading on the Highland
Council Intranet.
For public library copyright issues please contact Norman Newton
at the Library Support Unit.
