Highland Council has a
licence,
which permits copying of paper or digital
Ordnance Survey maps by or on behalf of educational
establishments for internal purposes including teaching or
examinations. Terms of this licence require all copy
over 200 sq.cms to prominently display the following:

Controller of Her Majesty’s Stationery Office

Crown Copyright. Unauthorised reproduction infringes Crown
Copyright and may lead to prosecution or civil proceedings’

For small scale
maps (1:25000 scale and smaller) reproduced in colour,
the map area must not exceed 625 sq.cms. (approx. A4
size)

Ordnance Survey
material included in a school prospectus, magazine or
web site, which is sold or distributed outside the
school, requires an additional licence from the OS as
this is regarded as general publishing.

Individual
students may acquire extracts of OS mapping from
libraries under
fair dealing provisions or
from authorities where specific authority information is
required on an OS base as part of their studies.
A letter of authority from the school however is
required in the latter case.

obtain extracts of the 1:50 000 scale OS Landranger Map
mapping free of charge from the ‘Get-a-map’ service on
their web site at
