At the House of the Magician by Mary Hooper

Mary Hooper sustained her plot and the setting was realistic. However, from the blurb I thought she would be going on an adventure to tell her the secret. All she had to do was visit somewhere.

This book is about a girl in the 1600's who finds work in the house of a magician to try and escape domestic violence at home. It is a good read because it has a surprising plot and the surroundings and fashions of the time are described really well.

I thought this book had a good plot but could have been longer.
