Castles Burning by Magda Denes

Magda Denes was five years old in 1939 when her father, editor and publisher of an anti-Nazi newspaper, fled Budapest for the safety of America.  That was the last his young family heard from him for the duration of the war. He left them with nothing.  Persecuted and then hunted by Fascists, Magda was forced into hiding.   Living with fear and deprivation, she was determined not to give way to despair.   Tragic and wryly funny, her story brings the horrific realities of wartime vividly to life.
