A delicious novel
for chocolate lovers, as it oozes with mouthwatering descriptions of luxurious
treats. Vianne arrives in a rural French village with her small daughter
Anouk (and her imaginary rabbit). She establishes a chocolaterie across the road
from the Catholic church at lent, and thus causes an immediate problem for the
priest. Vianne brings luxury, compassion and care to a community where the
church traditions have a real hold, yet the priest (the Black Man ) is cold and
uncompassionate. Vianne is an intriguing character, influenced by her
nomadic and magical mother, yet her spirit is so able to release others from
their problems. Vianne brings her own form of magic to the village of
Lansquenet, before the wind blows again. |
