John M Coetzee

• Born in Cape Town, 1940

• Educated in South Africa and the USA as a computer scientist and linguist

• Received a Doctorate from the University of Texas

• Began writing in 1983

• Has won the Booker Prize twice, the second time with Disgrace in 1999

• Emigrated to Australia in 2002

• Won the Nobel Prize in Literature 2003

• Lives with his partner Dorothy Driver in Adelaide, South Australia, where he holds an honorary position at the University of Adelaide
