A Crime in the Neighbourhood by Suzanne Berne

This novel is set in a quiet suburb of Washington, DC. It is the summer of 1972 and ten year old Marsha's life is about to be turned upside down.  A young boy is molested, murdered and dumped behind a nearby shopping mall.  Marsha suspects that her next door neighbour, Mr Green, is the murderer.  As the murder hunt continues she becomes obsessed with noting his movements in her 'book of evidence'.  The novel also deals sensitively with her father's affair with her aunt and other family relationships.
