Two stories inhabit this novel – that of Susan Colgate, a teen beauty queen and soap opera actress, who vanishes after a plane crash, and of John Johnson, an alcoholic film producer who engineers his own disappearing act.   By turns comic, poignant and satirical, this novel is an entertaining insight into the nature of celebrity, and the lives of those on the fringes.
