In the year 2220 Eugenia Insignia, one of the astronomers on the space settlement Rotor, discovered a new star between the Sun and Alpha Centauri.   Shortly afterwards Commander Pitt took Rotor out of the solar system and headed for the new star, Nemesis, using hyper-assisted drive to travel at the speed of light.   Other settlements started to develop the same technology, but did nothing with it.   Leaders on earth, however, soon realised that Nemesis was heading for the solar system and likely to destroy life on the planet.   They started to lay plans to follow Rotor, with retribution in mind.   A story of human relationships, power politics, and a young girl with an unusual gift.
