Policy

Main Aims:

  • To help pupils make their selection for the Specialist Study: Literature at Higher & Advanced Higher level

  • Enable pupils to identify sources of literary information which will enrich their experience of the texts

  • Assist librarians and teachers by providing information which can be accessed independently by pupils 

Policy:

  • Texts selected for inclusion will relate to the requirements of Higher & Advanced Higher

  • The selection will be made from the best material, published in the last 20 years, and currently available

  • The main criteria for selection will be that texts are well written and deal with issues in a responsible way

  • "Scottish” is defined as: by a Scottish born writer, having a Scottish theme, or reflecting Scottish life and culture

  •  In the case of texts which meet the above criteria but may be considered controversial or offensive, their inclusion will be subject to consultation with Senior English Specialists

  • Suggestions will be considered by an editorial group of Librarians

  • In the event of disagreement the final decision will rest with the Reading Webs Committee

  • The web site will be maintained, updated continuously and reviewed annually

Process:

  • Suggestions for inclusion may be sent to members of the working group at any time

  • Where possible the person making the suggestion should write a short blurb for the book they are suggesting ( see guidelines )

  • Final selection, decision on books to be removed etc will be the task of the editorial group
