The Curious Incident of
the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon
Published by Vintage
This is the story of Christopher, an autistic 15 year-old who one day
discovers a dead dog on the end of a garden fork on his neighbour’s
lawn. Because of his
fondness for Sherlock Holmes, he
decides to crack the case, and with the encouragement of his teacher,
Siobhan, writes a book about it. This book compellingly
pulls the reader into his world, one both fascinating and incredibly
lonely as Christopher struggles to relate to the people around him.
His story relies heavily on visual clues, so the format of the book is
rather different, interspersed with pictures and diagrams that
illustrate the workings of Christopher’s mind. You will not
be disappointed with this one as it has definitely earned all of the
praise it has received. |
