Jess first meets her cousin Laurie after she hears her sing in a
teenage music club in Belfast. They
are both fifteen. Their families haven’t spoken since
Jess’ father married her mother and turned Catholic.
They meet up secretly, in defiance of their parents, and decide to
work with Jess’ cousin Neal on an entry for a song-writing
competition. However, the shadows cast by years of
violence and intolerance threaten even this innocent activity.
