Annie is Norwegian, and when her parents split up she comes to England, where her class are doing work experience, and War poetry in English.   Class-mate Grant Penny unexpectedly commits suicide, and when the rest of the school responds with mass grief, Annie takes a more practical decision, to find out what was so badly wrong in Grant’s life.   Annie also befriends a war veteran, through her work experience, which helps her cope with deep unhappiness at school.   Realistic and genuinely intriguing, this book reflects both the darker side of life, and the optimism of teenagers.   Through Annie’s telling of her own story, we experience the ups and downs of teenage life.
