The Highland Council Music
Programme has been drawn up by a number of colleagues from various
schools across the authority. The programme follows a common format used
in the development of other subject programmes.
The programme has been based on the Music Programme of the Scottish
Borders Council which, it should be noted, has a revised edition.
Revisions are only minor and all the references are consistent with both
versions. The Music Spine devised in 1996 by Ross and Cromarty Area
Visiting Music Specialists has also been drawn upon and updated where
necessary. The Suggested Resources all refer to typical activities in
the Borders Programme but is by no means either prescriptive or
exclusive to those activities - many more good examples are to be found.
For consistency of approach across the authority it is expected that
schools will use the new Music programme within their schools or have an
equivalent programme that meets the 5-14 attainment targets.
Schools should decide on the best way to use the programme and can
customise it to suit their own circumstances and resources.
It is suggested that teachers highlight the assessment criteria, skills,
assessment evidence and resources to be taught either electronically or
on paper.
It is anticipated that the programme will provide support for Head
Teachers and Class Teachers in the delivery of the 5-14 Music
guidelines.
The Programme will be updated as appropriate, in the light of further
developments.
The Highland Council is grateful to Mr C Williams for his work on this
document.
