Jansi is scavenging in the desert, when he comes across a crashed Stelcorp space ship, which he takes to be a temple. The space ship's crew are dead, and the computer, PIM, needs human help to repair its circuits so that it can communicate with its base. Desert boy and computer must learn to understand one another. Each learns and develops in the process. When Stelcorp are eventually contacted they find the changes in the computer unacceptable, and Jansi and PIM have to draw on all their resources to save themselves from destruction.
